Message from the President

Shiga Junior College with a Lively Energy of Students’ Strong Will and Their Continuous Learning to Acquire a Well-rounded Education

We would like to express our deepest sympathy and concern for all those who have been affected by Great East Japan Earthquake. We are praying that the disaster area revive immediately with the cordial assistance from many people.

Much to our delight, Shiga Junior College (SJC) was able to meet student quota with more than 10 percent male students of all freshmen this year as well. This co-educational system has become well-established in our collage and we are all extremely pleased that the campus is bursting with vitality of all students.

SJC was established in 1970 as a women’s college, sponsored by the Educational Corporation Sumire Gakuen with a ninety-year history. Under the founding philosophy of the Sumire Gakuen, “the Harmony of Heart & Hand,” SJC has an educational aim that students should obtain wide and profound knowledge and highly technical skills with a rich sense of humanity.

SJC consists of three departments as below. Our students have their own career goal and they study:
1. in the Department of Human Environmental Sciences,
to be a dietician, a pastry chef (pâtissier), or a specialist of daily ecological lifestyle,
2. in the Department of Childcare and Preschool Education,
to be a kindergarten or nursery school teacher who helps children shape their future, and
3. in the Department of Business Communication,
to be a medical processor or an office worker as hospitality-minded staff in the society.
Through their learning, they are acquiring practical abilities in their fields.

Our students and faculty & staff will cooperate and learn together to achieve our educational aim. SJC is a place where our faculty & staff will dedicate themselves to offer transparent education to students and to support their learning. It is also a place where students can meet each other and find pleasure to share their knowledge through communication. The energy sources of SJC can be found in the fact that each and every one of the students learn harmoniously to affect on each other through this co-educational system. Therefore, SJC is a place where students can cultivate themselves and find the potential for their future expansion. In other words, our students will learn to have strong will for continuous learning through their academic and extracurricular activities on and/or off campus. We are hoping that their learning will encourage themselves to enjoy their everyday life.

Since its founding, SJC has been offering practical education for over four decades. While inheriting this tradition and achievements, SJC will continue to maintain its lively energy and better job placement. We believe our students will be highly-educated at SJC to help support the reconstruction and revitalization of Japan.
